Prashant Kishor, who voiced his support for the protesting students, was arrested in Patna during a strike.

Jan Suraaj Party chief, Prashant Kishor, who joined an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan in Patna was arrested by the Bihar police on Monday morning. Mr. Kishor was removed from jail “forcibly” in an ambulance, and he has been quarantined from other people according to the media sources.

Prashant Kishor has asserted not to take food and drink in, and has declared that he would die in a fast.

Prashant Kishor of the Jan Suraaj Party and others were picketing in the Gandhi statue area of Gandhi Maidan without permission and producing five points. An FIR was lodged at Gandhi Maidan police station for this illicit demonstration. Despite several appeals and enough time, the protesters failed to leave the area,” SSP Awakash Kumar of Adilabad in a conversation with IANS said.

Kishor and some of his supporters were arrested in the morning of January 6.” They are all in good health. As the legal procedure permits, the action is being taken to produce them in court, said SSP Kumar.

ANI also posted a video showing a large group of policemen in Patna trying to dismantle Mr. Kishor from the protest site; his supporters tried to stop the police. The police also removed the other demonstrators from the scene.

Kishor, a former election strategist and now a politician, has been fasting since January 2 as a show of solidarity with the students. The students have been urging for the scraping of the integrated 70th Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Test held by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) over a paper leakage issue.
